Family / Household editor
January 23, 2014, 12:43:48 pm
Many of our contacts are with families and it is fairly common for an admin to enter several family members.  This involves creating a household, creating the individuals and setting up all the relationships - spouse/child/sibling/hh member. A family or household editor screen would make this a lot easier: one screen where you can enter all the names to create individuals, set up the relationships etc.

I'd guess many others have faced a similar problem so I'm keen to hear ideas of how this has been, or could be, addressed.

Webforms seems like it could do this, but it is using Wordpress.  Changing CMS is not out of the question but I know there has been a lot of progress with native extensions.

You may want to try my "Youth Registration" extension  (https://github.com/sgladstone/com.pogstone.youthregistration) Since this is a native CiviCRM extension, it works under WordPress, Joomla or Drupal.

When using this extension, someone fills in the name of the parents, children, and potentially emergency contacts for the children; then behind the scenes the extension creates/updates a household and creates the appropriate relationships.   This extension works within the context of a paid event, not the back-office. But a staff member could use the front-end event registration to create the family.

The Youth Registration extension is compatible with 4.3.5.  Is anyone looking at what is needed to make it compatible with the current 4.4.6 version, or even 4.5?  I thought I saw reference to some possible work on this at a sprint
