SOLVED - Upgrade Gong show - 3.4 -4.4. CiviCRM not functional
January 26, 2014, 02:14:04 pm
Hi all, total noob here, so please bear with me.
Basic issue is trying to upgrade to 4.4 -
I started with this page (http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Upgrade+Drupal+Sites+to+4.4+-+Drupal+7) which led me to believe that I could jump all those major version updates. I got a fatal error due to lack of civicrm_settings table, and locked me out of my site.

So I restored my 3.4 civicrm folder, made sure I was logged in as user#1 and tried again with 4.1, which for some reason I thought would help. Same basic error in a different format when I tried running the upgrade script. So I deleted, reinstalled 3.4, and tried with v 4.0.7. Where I am now is that if I try to access my website, i can log in, but if i try to get to civicrm, such as by entering the url mysite.com/civicrm, I get the following error:

Quote
Fatal error: Call to undefined function smarty_block_crmScope() in /home/ecosocie/public_html/sites/default/files/civicrm/templates_c/en_US/%%06/06C/06C5296F%%jquery.files.tpl.php on line 5

Foolishly, I did not check to see if civicrm was working in the intervening steps, so I'm not sure where along the line I blew up my template. Probably when one of the several attempts to run civicrm/upgrade failed.

Here are the options as far as I can tell:
1) remove civicrm module and try a fresh install.
2) restoring that particular file from my backup.

With #1 I am a little worried that I might lose my crm data. Everyone says backup your database and I THINK I have done that, but I'm not positive I got the right thing, and I'm not sure how to re-instate it once CiviCRM deletes my table on uninstall.

Any advice, suggestions, corrections are most appreciated!

Try recursively deleting the contents of your sites files/civicrm/templates_c/* folder.
