Is it possible to attach the information gathered in a profile (which is all being added as a new record in a custom data set) to a contact identified in a contact reference field, rather than on the submitter's record or as a new contact record?  I understand that the info could be gathered via edit mode (if the user knows how to add the Civi ID in the URL, which is unlikely) but the edit version of this particular profile is far less user-friendly than the create version. 

So, for example, the contact Foghorn Leghorn is pulled up in the profile's contact reference field, and it's his record to which the info should be attached.

Thanks - this is a great suggestion.  (This is a D7 site BTW.)  I guess we were hoping to find a straight Civi solution but this might end up being the way we go on this.
