Problem upgrading from 4.0.8 to 4.1.1
February 03, 2014, 12:36:37 pm
Hello, I have had all sorts of database problems trying to go from 4.0 to the latest version so I have decided to try and go up version by version, starting with 4.1.

However, when I replace the sites/all/modules/civicrm version with the freshly uploaded 4.1 civicrm folder and visit the /civicrm/upgrade?reset=1, I get an "500 Internal Server Error" message and cannot proceed. I have checked permissions on the uploaded folder and all are OK at 755.

I have tried this same process with 4.2 and 4.3 and 4.4 and this is not a problem. I have only had this happen with 4.1.0 and 4.1.1 and I cannot for the life of me figure out what's going on.

Can anyone help please?

How big is your database?

4.1 alters some of the mailing tables on on large databases we opted to pre-alter those tables and remove those lines from the upgrade script.

Also, if you have tried & failed - make sure you drop & create when restoring from backup - to get rid of created tables & have a go at using drush to upgrade - drush civicrm-upgrade-db to get around front end probs

Thank you Eileen for the reply. The gzipped database file is 3.4MB and there are about 530 entries in the civicrm_contact table. Does that answer your question?

Your suggestion of using drush might be worth trying. Although I haven't got as far as a failed upgrade yet, considering that the upgrade page simply throws a 500 error. a
