How to set up custom fields for a single event
February 04, 2014, 08:41:18 am
I'm trying to set up some custom data for participants of a single event. I have created a new Custom Field Set selected Participants (Event Name) in Used For. When I go to create a Profile for this Custom Field Set, however, I cannot find the Custom Field Set. When I try to add a field to the new Profile, I choose Participant for the Field Name (there are no other participant-related options), but my Custom Field Set is not available in the secondary drop down. This is unsurprising considering the fields only apply to participants of a certain event, not all participants generally.

The question is: how do I create a set of fields for a specific event? Have I misunderstood how Custom Field Sets and Profiles relate to online registration for a CiviEvent, or am I just missing a step? Or have I understood everything, and this is just a bug because we're running CiviCRM 4 on Drupal 6?

Any guidance will be appreciated.

Double check that both the Custom Field set & the custom Fields are marked as active. The field should be in the list in the following format:

<< custom field name >> :: << custom field set >>

The fields are listed in alphabetical order by field name.

Hope it helps...

The Custom Field Set and the Custom Field are both active. They do not show up anywhere in the drop downs when I try to add a field to the Profile.

does this profile have other fields already or is it a brand spanking new one - and if so, perhaps replicate on demo site so as to confirm if it is a bug/missing feature or not

Turns out to be user error. I simply missed seeing it (repeatedly) because I was looking in the wrong place in the dropdown amongst all the other choices.
