Drupal 6 to 7 / Civi 4.3 to 4.4
February 05, 2014, 04:13:28 am
Hi,

I am upgrading a drupal site from D6 to D7. D6 has civicrm version 4.3.5. Can anybody tell me how hard it is to do the upgrade.? Does the upgrade go smoothly or are there frequent issues occurring during upgrade. I need to give an estimate to a client and since I have never done a civi upgrade , so if anybody could tell me how many days it should take to do the upgrade, it would be a really great help.

Not sure but following information might be useful -
1) 4 civi extensions have been used in the site  com.drastikbydesign.stripe , com.sciencegallery.mailchimp-1.0 , net.ourpowerbase.sumfields and  nz.co.fuzion.extendedreport
2) 1 custom payment processor is there
3) Almost all components of civi i.e. CiviContribute, CiviMember, CiviEvent and CiviMail has been used extensively.

Any help as soon as possible much appreciated.

Thanks,
Ashok Negi

Hi Ashok,

IMO CiviCRM upgrade will not take much time , but you need to check if all the extension your using are compatible with
CiviCRM latest stable. Also if there is any customization done in older version than it will add some more time in upgrade process.

If all smooth, its hardly 2-3HRS job !!

Well Civi 4.3 will run on d6 and d7 both. So it's not really even an upgrade.
And moving from CIvi 4.3 to 4.4 is quite trivial, as long as the extensions are all compatible.
The only hard part will be upgrading Drupal. Man, what a PITA drupal upgrades are. Personally I'd just skip it and hold out for D8.
