Online Contributions going through with 0 dollars
February 05, 2014, 09:07:59 am
We just upgraded to Civi 4.4.3 and now when someone makes a contribution and they do not choose one of the options from a price set it let's them complete the form charging paypal "zero dollars". There used to be a validation on this that would not allow them to go to the next page if they did not make a choice. How do I change this back? Any quick help would be much appreciated!!

If you edit a price field in a price set there should be a Required tick box towards the end of the page.

If I mark each price field within the price set, wouldn't that make it so that each price field has to be selected?

Yes that is true.

How is your price set configured?  It is obviously different from the way I usually do it.

The price set is for a concert tour. They can check how many tickets they want and for what concert. Different locations have different prices. So I don't want them to have to choose all concerts, just one or however many they want to go to. But it allows them to not choose any options and complete the transaction with 0 dollars. I didn't even think this was possible with a Civi Form unless you have the pay later option clicked.

In a similar situation I set up the price set so that each price field had a "I am not attending this session" zero cost option and made all the price fields "required".

It was still possible for someone to choose "not-attending" for each price field and end up with a $0 for their event fee, but they had to choose to do that rather than just forget to choose anything.

That might work for you if you don't have too many concerts on offer.  I think you can get people to tick about 5 "not attending" options before they get fed up and decide they don't really want to go to a concert after all.

That is funny:) But I would prefer that there is a required validation in place instead of having to choose they are not attending. We also have several other forms for camping, vendor applications etc that this would effect. Does anyone know if this is a bug in 4.4.3? This would be a pain if all of our forms were this way:(
