Full State Name Exported with 4.4.4
February 07, 2014, 07:06:18 am
I upgraded our test site to 4.4.4 and tested exporting (search action) contact data.  I notice the the full state name is exported instead of the postal abbreviation.  I also noticed this on the WordPress demo site yesterday but I didn't note what version was running then.  Today it is running version 4.4.5 and state field is blank when exported.

Is this a bug or a new feature?  Is there a setting for exporting the state filed (full or abbreviation).

We are in the middle of exporting data for Postal mailings and I can't upgrade to 4.4.3 on our website if I can't export state postal abbreviations.

I've seen so many variations on this post before - and many competing systems allow you to select either full state name or abbreviation.  I think it's time Civi offered both name and abbreviation as options pretty much everywhere.

I don't have time to do this in time for 4.5, unfortunately, but could take this on during the April sprint if thats what made sense.

We have lost the ability to export our state abbreviations running 4.4.4.  Does anyone know how to solve this?

This set alarm bells ringing for me as we are about to upgrade our live site to 4.4 and I have been blithely telling everyone that by now the obvious bugs in 4.4 will be gone so we really only need to test our edge use cases and customisations!  (We just don't have the staff to test everything properly.) So I have done some checking.

On our dev site which is running 4.4.4. if I export the primary address the state field is empty, but if I export the postal address (our primary address type is postal) then the state abbreviation is exported

This might be a work around for some people for now.

Also, there are some jira issues that seem to apply to this with a couple of  patches available.  http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-14198  is the easiest place to find the links to the patches.

I applied those patches from CRM-14198 too, and it seemed to fix the problem.
