search result kicks me out of civi - back to home page

this just started happening. When I search for contacts, I get kicked out of civi and presented with the home page.
Any suggestions?

First steps:
* Go to Administer menu -> System Settings -> Debugging and Error Handling.  Turn on debugging and backtrace, see if that provides more info.
* Clear your templates_c folder.

This should only apply if some part of your server environment or Civi version changed, but:
* Check your $BASE_URL in civicrm.settings.php, as well as the directories and URLs in Administer menu -> System Settings -> Directories/Resource URLs.
