Drupal sign up and civicrm contact type creation
February 20, 2014, 09:19:28 am
Hi there, I´m new to civicrm and I´m working in the argentinian IMBA site (imba.com.ar). I would like to know if the contact type (Individual, Household, Organization) can be selected when a visitor to the site create a Drupal user.
I know that is by default that civicrm creates an Individual contact when signing up in Drupal, but, I would like to make something like a profile in the sign up form to let the user choose the contact type (Individual, Household, Organization).

hi and welcome - this has come up a few times and i suspect someone has cooked up something but a quick search didn't find a recipe beyond Lobo saying 'via a hook' here http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,29702.msg127250.html#msg127250

The question that is usually asked is what are you trying to achieve. It can only ever be a person typing in the password (ie Orgs don't have fingers) so it must be an Individual that is actually logging in.

Re: Drupal sign up and civicrm contact type creation

I understand, but, organizations have administratives who organize all the stuff, and with the mail and name of the organization a drupal user with a civicrm contact would be created, and it should be an org contact type and not an individual type.
But I don´t know. May be my logic is not the common one and I may be wrong.

So I´ll try to ask again.
A household or an organization civicrm contact could be sync (or match) with a drupal user?
Could be a drupal user sync (or match) to two civicrm contact (like individual and household)?

I red in the CiviCRM user and administrator guide (http://book.civicrm.org/user/current/membership/what-you-need-to-know/)
"Members are simply contacts in your database with a particular membership. The contact may be an individual, organisation or some other contact sub-type, but it is always a contact: there is no separate member entity."

So i would like that someone who wants to get a household membership could do it logged in with a drupal user account, so he could renew the membership or do other stuff from the drupal user account.

Could it be done?

currently civi is built so creating a drupal user will ONLY create an Individual

can this be customised - yes I have read in forum people who have done this - sorry i can't point to the recipe but i think you would find it by more searching

the question of how does an individual buy a membership for an organisation is provided by the "on behalf of organisation' feature on Contribution pages

can this be done for a household instead - not out of the box afaik

the webform-civicrm module gives more options and if your payment processor is of the type that does the credit card on the contribution page then it would be worth reading up about as it may help you have an individual sign up for a membership that belongs to the household, and create the relationship between them

but you are going to have some work to do whichever way you go I think (unless there is an extension that covers any of the above)

sorry not to be giving you easier answers.
