Another Family Membership Issue
February 21, 2014, 06:49:08 pm
As I stated in my previous post, in our system we have family memberships wherein there is one primary member and other members (like their children) are 'attached' to the membership.

So, the issue is that when the primary member renews or joins their membership the other members attached to the primary do not show up in an activity search for either "sign up" or "renewal." The activity search has been the main way that I search for new/renewing members in order to mail them membership cards. The dependent/attached members DO show up in a 'member start date' search. However, doing both of these searches means a lot of extra work exporting multiple lists and comparing them for duplicates in excel...it's a hairy process and fraught with the potential for error.

I hope this is clear enough. Any help is wonderful!

Cheers,

Bobby

why doesn't work "'member start date' search" work for both your PRIMARY and RELATED members

(and would be good if you can use the precise civi terminology to avoid confusion)

Sorry for the language imprecision, Petednz :)

'Member Start Date' search does work for PRIMARY and RELATED members, but it doesn't catch members who renew before their membership expires, so we try to use an activity search that includes both 'member renewals' and 'member sign ups.'

So, the issue is that while I CAN find all joining and renewing members, I have to search using couple of different methods to achieve the desired result. THEN I have to take those exported lists and check for dupes in excel. This takes extra time and can be confusing with a larger set of records.

What I would like to do is have the activity search find all of the members on a family membership so I can export those records and send them membership cards.

Yours in precision,

BE

kind of ironic that i couldn't even string a short sentence together above without errors ;-)

haven't hit this issue but yes i think i understand the grief it can cause but don't have any smart suggestions other than wait for someone else who might have a workaround
