Some activities not displaying

I have recently upgraded to version 4.4 and have just noticed that some activities do not display. The attached image is an example. I have not been able to track down the circumstances that cause some activities to display and some not to display.

Has anyone else seen this issue?

Could all the missing activities be bulk emails sent through CiviMail?

Loading bulk emails activities has been identified as significantly delaying the loading of the activities tab. http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,31488.msg135657.html#msg135657

So from 4.4.4 bulk emails activities are specifically excluded from the activities tab.  However there is a bug in 4.4.4 - the activity count on the tab still includes the bulk emails.  The fix for this bug will be in 4.4.5. If you need to patch before then it is https://github.com/civicrm/civicrm-core/commit/eacfbd68058161e4cda8d35a86c8613770860ad2#diff-0

And before you panic about not knowing who was sent which bulk email (like I did):
  • Go to Administer>CiviMail>CiviMail Component Settings
  • Untick the tick box labelled "Enable CiviMail to create activities on delivery".

This will result in a new tab called Mailings being created for each contact.  A record of the bulk emails they are sent will be stored on that tab. 

It also works retrospectively, so each bulk email that was recorded as an activity will now appear on the Mailing tab. 

This means you get a faster loading activity tab where it is easier to find activities that are specific to that contact and you can still see from the Mailings tab if someone has been sent a particular bulk email.

That is certainly the cause of the problem. I applied the patch which changed the Activity count but displayed no Activities at all. I backed it out and will wait for the fix in the next release (4.4.5)

Martin, you last comment could point to something being wrong with the patch, so I'd like to just check some things with you.

  • Am I right in assuming you are running 4.4.4?
  • Quote

      Does this mean that the count on the tab showed as zero, or that the three activities shown in your attachment no longer appeared on the activities tab?
  • If the latter, did they appear on the Mailings tab?
  • Do you have any activities in your system that are not either Email or Bulk Email?
  • If the answer to 5 is yes, did you specifically confirm that those activities also "vanished" where you had the patch in place?

I am running 4.4.4. Before I applied the patch the Activities tab count was 152. I then switched off the Bulk Email switch (I forget what it was called) and that then showed the Bulk Emails tab with a count of 153. At this time I was also able to tab through the activities and the non bulk email activities were 21 in total. These numbers don't stack up since I was expecting to see 152 - 21 Bulk Emails being 131 but the count is 153.

I then applied the patch. The Activity count now displayed 21 (correctly) but displayed no activities. I then reversed the patch.

Upgraded from 4.3.4 to 4.4.4. Similar issue that bulk email activities were missing from Activities tab. Applied patch to fix the count and unchecked the civimail admin option. Now I see the mailing tab with bulk email activities.
Though Opened/Click counts are totally off. Open count for a particular email for a specific contact, instead of showing count 2 or 3 it shows over 2000. This does not match with any count in the mailing report.
Is there a patch to fix the opened/click count in the mailings tab?

In 4.4.4 and 4.4.6 both, the Mailing tab does not show correct Opens and Clicks. The number is totally off. Setting "Enable CiviMail to create activities on delivery" is unchecked. Is anyone facing this issue? Is there  a patch for this?

I just unchecked the box so I get the "Mailings" tab.  BUT when I go to the "Mailings" tab I get the following error:
