Questions About Contributions on Demo Site

Hi Folks,

I was responding to a help request here (http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,31868.msg136464.html#msg136464) helping a person who posted about a problem with contribution receipts. I went to the demo site, http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org and made a contribution. First I logged in, went to "Manage Contribution Pages" and got the link for a test page of one of the contributions listed. I copied the URL, logged out, then pasted the URL navigated to the donaton page and made a test donation.

It was annoying to have to use a real credit card, especially on a non-SSL page, but it wouldn't take 1111111111111111 as I had hoped.

The on-screen feedback I got for the donation was all good.

BUT, I didn't get an email receipt. And the donation wasn't recorded in Civi. I logged back and checked. No contribution was listed, though a record was created for the contact (I used a fake name and a real email address cause I wanted to get the receipt. I changed the email afterwards to something fake.)

In short: is the demo site set up to be able to test contribution work-flows?

My understanding is that emails are permanently  disabled from the demo sites. 

As anyone can access the sites and enter data into them I imagine this is to prevent abuse of the email system.
