Paying Deposit and Balance in CiviEvents

I know this topic has come up before but I have searched the forum and cannot find any up to date answers to it.

I have a CiviEvent Online Registration form for an activity week. The parent competes the Primary Contact Information and then adds the childs medical consent.

When we go to pay I want the parent to pay a deposit and then 6 weeks before the event pay the balance.

I cannot work out how to configure this in CiviEvent. I have seen mentions of it in desired new functionality but I cannot find any evidence that it has been added.

Can anyone help?

Unfortunately this complex and robust functionality has not been added to CiviCRM thus far because of the cost that I'm aware of.  In other words, those who desire it have not yet been able to afford to build it.

However, organizations that I work with create a Contribution Page (not an event page) to handle "remaining balance" and contributions made at that Contribution Page are Event Fees.

With "fill in the blank" and "multiple choice" dollar amounts this has been an acceptable workaround for their relatively low (50/month) volume.
