create user (login) from civicrm registration
March 08, 2014, 06:02:55 pm
Hi all! I am new to joomla and civicrm, and currently working on figuring out why the front-end civicrm membership registration fails to create any joomla user record, causing user unable to log in.

I have done the following configuration which I believe are the necessary steps (could be missing something here?):

- User Manager - Options - Component - Allow User Registration -> "Yes"

- CiviCRM - Administer - CiviContribute - Manage Contribution Pages - Find configured contribution page at the bottom of the page - Configure - Choose "Include Profiles" (identify profile in use)

- Locate identified (from previous step) profile under CiviCRM - Administer - Customize Data and Screens - Profiles - Profile - Settings - Advanced Settings - Joomla user account registration option? : Choose "Account creation required"

If the user registers for paid membership, how should the administrator give approval to the user for login after the membership fees is cleared?

Looking forward to guidance and feedback, any help is also appreciated. Thanks.

We recently noted that on one Drupal site (4.2.x) where the new user was not created UNLESS the contribution page had payment in-page. If payment was deferred or made off-site, then the new user account was not created.

I have not explored thoroughly to see whether this is the expected behaviour (I think it's only on 4.2 and that we established 4.4 did not do this).

That may be a factor for you?

Thanks a lot for your feedback.
We currently do not make payment compulsory on the page (could be a reason then), what is the way to accomplish this (to make payment compulsory on the contribution page)?
In the case of a free membership, they payment step will definitely be skipped, is that possible for a joomla user account to be created right after a civicrm registration with free membership?

I can confirm that "pay later" does not trigger account creation on 4.2.
Try CiviTeacher: the online video tutorial CiviCRM learning library.

Any updates on this issue ?  Is upgrading to the latest CiviCRM version fix this issue?
