[Resolved] Simplest possible amount input on membership contribution page

Our organisation has always found that setting a pay-what-you-can sliding scale for membership works better than fixed membership then asking for an additional contribution.
When i saw that membership types define minimum price, i was excited, but as i've found, sliding scale isn't supported directly.

So, i'm trying to create my first contribution page, and what i want is a simple text field where the person types in what they want to pay (e.g. pre-loaded with $30 when the range is $25-$100). I'm worried that if we follow the membership + contribution path the software wants us to, people will be charged $25 more than they intended or will get frustrated at having to correct and only pay the minimum. The screen to process a payment when adding a contact from admin works exactly how we want.

Is there any way of doing this. We do like the idea of being able to receipt as minimum membership + donation, but we've never done that before so it isn't essential.

can you use a price set with a field for amounts of $1 that they can write in ie text (and presumably a default value of 30)

Thanks Peter,
I've created a price set with a radio button and amounts of $25,$30,$40,$50,$75 and $100. That seems reasonably elegant. However, the contribution page editor still thinks I don't have any price sets defined!

Apologies for giant text, must be a quirk of using a tablet.

did you create a price set for contributions or memberships?

Got it sorted...
I was seeing the no price set message on the amounts panel, because there are no *contribution* price sets defined.
I've now located the selector for membership price sets on the memberships pane. Then got an error that I couldn't use membership price sets, which I managed to fix by going back and unchecking the Include contribution checkbox.

This learning curve contains many brick walls. (Puts on hurdling shoes)
