Contact name changing
March 18, 2014, 07:26:10 am
This is an old problem which has not come up here for a number of years. I run a site with events of 400 to 500 people. In each event someone feels it is too complicated for individuals to register themselves or for what ever reason they take on the task.

On the registration page in the fine print it asks if they are registering them self or someone else. They miss that and see a place to replace their name with the information about the new registration.  Their contact record changes to the new registration and the reports shows the new person multiple times. Obviously it is my fault and  they expect me to fix the records. It has been documented here the complexity of fixing it correctly as it can require moving or deleting the registration and dealing with the payments.

I would like to see an error flagged when contact information is changed which would require the person to know they are changing their record before allowing it. I would really prefer if more than just a simple one field change like correcting a spelling error in the name the transaction aborted.

Hi,

One way to fix it is to prevent it: logged in users can't modify their name when registering for an event if you install this extension

you can install it directly from your civi
