Visualisation/Vizualization
March 18, 2014, 11:00:36 am
Hi guys,

I was delighted when I saw that two students will be tackling a CiviVisualisation project for the Google Summer of Code!

I really think that rock solid visualisation functionality is something which would make Civi a ton better for all its users, as long as the scope isn't too narrow.

So my question is, besides myself and Xavier, who else is interested in this? Is it possible that this could be a 5.0 feature? What kind of things would you like to see?

If you like empowering charities in a free and open way, then you're going to love Civi.

Everyone is interested ;) Who doesn't like nice images?

Veda is trying to use civisualize for one of their project, Owen has already done some funky stuff with pentaho, eileen has worked as well on d3/dc if I recall...

I think we'll have a clearer idea after the summer (assuming the projects are going to be selected and be successful) of what is the right balance between super rigid but ready to use vs super low level but needs a lot of code and how much can be generic.

I think it's relatively independent from which version of civi is used, I hope it will be a 4.4 feature that is widely used and the data extraction part will be adapted to benefit from doctrine for 5.

So far, I haven't found a limit that would force it to be integrated with the core, so I think it could stay as extensions, hopefully a commonly installed one.
