Waiting List for paid event requires payment

I'm in 4.2.7 (I know I should upgrade but I'm having trouble successfully upgrading from 4.2.7 - but that's a different post) and been trying to figure out using a wait list. I've not used it prior to now and was wondering why when an event is full and a user goes on and gets the 'currently full join waiting list' message the only payment option displayed is credit card info.

I found this post http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,30689.msg131591.html and was excited I had found a fix, but it refers to 4.4 and in 4.2.7 I don't have the CRM_Contribute_Form_Contribution_Main::preProcessPaymentOptions function on line 98.

Has anyone patched this in 4.2.7? Or should I try and add the preProcessPaymentOptions function into my install of 4.2.7? Am I opening up a can of worms there?
