Civicrm 4.4.4 Webform 4 and Webform CiviCRM Integration 4 Email Prroblem
March 24, 2014, 06:49:24 am
I am using Civicrm 4.4.4 Webform 4 and Webform CiviCRM Integration 4. I have 4 contacts in a webform and Contribution page set up with the dummy processor. The contacts are set up to join individual events. The first contact, who is a payor and is not going to any event should receive the receipt from the event, He/she is paying for the other contacts. Pricing seems to be working fine but the payor (i.e. contact one) does not receive the contribution receipt email. This is also true when I set up the webform for all four contacts to attend the same event. It seems the form has suddenly stopped sending emails. I am quite sure that it was working previously, but I have done so much experimentation getting the pricing correct, that I can't be sure. Other contacts are also not receiving a receipt but I don't expect them to.

Mail is working when I "Save and Send Test Mail" from the Admin --> System Settings --> Outbound Mail.

The send receipt box is checked on the contribution page used by the webform.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hey bdika,

A client of mine has made some customisations for the event registration. Meaning that on the participant page an organisation can be selected who is paying for the participant. This is done through custom fields. The second customisation is that there is another page which generates contributions for organisations who is paying for a participant. The contribution then has a soft credit to the person who is participating.
The organisation will receive the invoice and will pay for the person(s) who are participating.
I know that this not an out of the box functionality but it just to show some alternative directions for a solution.

Hi jaapjansma:

Thanks for the reply. I have it working the way I need it, except it is not sending the receipt email.

Can you send receipt emails from civicrm? The reason I am asking this, is so we can see if it is webform-civicrm problem or a civicrm problem.

Hi jaapjansma:

As I mentioned above:

Quote
Mail is working when I "Save and Send Test Mail" from the Admin --> System Settings --> Outbound Mail.

I get the test email. So I think it is a webform-civicrm problem but I am too new to this to be sure.

I feel there must be something obvious, but it is escaping me.

I appreciate any ideas you may have.

Can you go in civicrm to search --> find contributions --> select a contribution and select from the action Print or Email Contribution Receipts. And the follow the steps. If this works then sending recepts from civicrm works. If this doesn't work than it gives you a message saying which no email is send. Which might be because the contact does not have an email address, or the contact has privacy settings to do not email or something like that.

This works. The contributor gets the email, even when I set up as a contributor, the same payor that fails to get an email from webform-civicrm.

So this probably means I have something set improperly in webform-civicrm?

Thanks

Is it worth your looking at using webform notifications to get the receipt out as a workaround?

Thanks petednz:

I was thinking about that but I would like to solve this problem if at all possible because I plan to use webform-civicrm in our charity the next time we have an event if I can get it working.

I tried creating another webform from scratch with a new Contribution page and webform-civicrm is still not sending the receipt email. I tried setting up a CC email and no luck with that either.

The frustrating part is that I think it was working at one time yesterday. I had been playing with setting the pricing for the event and had set and unset many options. I am new to civicrm and do not program, although I can find code and follow directions to change it. However, I do not see how this is required in such a case where everything is working as expected except for the mailing of a receipt. In following jaapjansma's instructions, we seem to have narrowed it down to an email problem in webform-civicrm and not in civicrm.

Thanks.

I am open to any ideas.

If possible, take a close look at the error logs from Drupal and CiviCRM - odds are you'll be able to identify why it's not working as you expect by doing this.

There are several places you might see what's going wrong (if something is). Doing the below will require a shell login to your webserver and a small amount of confidence using the commandline.
  • Logfiles can be "followed" with the "tail" command, eg tail -f /path/to/logfile. You can follow multiple files, eg tail -f /path/to/log1 /path/to/log2, but it might be easier to use multiple terminals to do this.
  • Since it's email related, I'd keep an eye on the server's mail log. For most of our servers this is /var/log/mail.log but it may differ for your case. Make sure you can observe an email go out via "normal methods", then keep watching that logfile.
  • Keep an eye on PHP errors - this might be in /var/log/apache2/errors.log or /var/log/php5-fpm.log - you'll need to understand your server's PHP config to observe the right logfiles. (If unsure, watch them all.)
  • Keep an eye on webserver errors - this can sometimes reveal an IPN which is hitting the wrong URL or similar.
  • Drupal logs errors to a DB table (if dblog module is enabled). I use drush watchdog-show --tail to keep a "tail-like" eye on the Drupal watchdog. You can also check in Drupal (Reports =>
  • CiviCRM logs errors to a filename like sites/default/files/civicrm/ConfigAndLog/CiviCRM.f6eec628a6017b504689b7ef55a696b6.log in your Drupal files directory.
If you can set yourself up so you can see an error in ANY of these places (eg, several terminals open watching each of these logfiles), and repeat the process which is mysteriously not working, you may be able to shed some light on the cause of the issue.

Hi Chris:

I have had to stop working on this for now. I will be getting back to it in a couple of weeks and will try the recommendations in your email. I would really like to solve this problem and you have given me an approach to follow.

Thank you.

I will report back if I solve it.
