Profile fields not updated when contact imported (some contacts are updated).

CiviCRM 4.2.4 with Drupal 6.

I'm trying to import some profile fields to Individuals, using the contact id as the identifier. Only 183 contacts get updated when I import a batch of 1,000 records. I've selected just a single contact to reproduce the problem and try to get to the bottom of things.

The confirmation screen shows 1 row and 1 record updated or created, but the number of tags assigned is zero and the profile fields are not updated. Screen shot attached.

The contact has a current membership, and I can manually edit the profile fields through the GUI.

Am I missing something here? I enabled debugging and checked all other logs, but nothing is reported.

Any pointers, much appreciated.

Hi, are you aware that CiviCRM requires regular maintenance and updates in order to remain reliable and secure?  I curious if anyone ever told you this.  For instance, your version 4.2.4 is over a year old and it not the latest in the 4.2 series - 4.2.16 is.

Can you explain what you mean by 'profile field' since it doesn't make sense in civi speak in this situation.

Custom Fields can be used in Profiles. Data can be imported in to Custom Fields. Data is not strictly speaking imported to 'profiles'

Second - are you importing Contact Data or Membership Data? If the latter, are you doing this as a Membership Import or a Contact Import?

Third - can you attach an example of the import?

Hopefully someone can point you in the right direction given the above

We have just taken over support for the site and are in the process of upgrading. I was hoping for a workaround.

Pete, these are 2 custom option fields in a profile with text values of Yes and No. No dates or anything complex. First colum of the csv has the contact id.

Is there anyway to debug the import script easily through configuration?

Sorry, Pete. You're right - I didn't answer your questions... We've upgraded our test environment and the bug has gone, so rather than try and work out why this is happening we are focusing on testing the latest release against our Drupal 6 site.

But to clarify things...

1) Can you explain what you mean by 'profile field' since it doesn't make sense in civi speak in this situation.
A: "profile field" means a Custom Field which has been added to a Profile.

2) Custom Fields can be used in Profiles. Data can be imported in to Custom Fields. Data is not strictly speaking imported to 'profiles'
A: I understand.

3) Second - are you importing Contact Data or Membership Data? If the latter, are you doing this as a Membership Import or a Contact Import?
A: We are importing contact data, to a profile available to all Contact Types, but in this case we are importing to an Individual.

4) Third - can you attach an example of the import?
A: Example CSV attached.

well if the bug is gone then I take it all is presumably good

but i would still content that you are not importing data 'to a profile' - you may be importing to 'a group of custom fields that is available to all Contact Types'. I am being picky because the right terminology is more likely to get the right help

Yes all is good now we are on the latest branch. Just waiting for UAT so we can release to the live site.

I thought that just saying that we are importing data into custom fields wouldn't give the whole picture, as the configuration settings of the profile seem to be a factor.
