Importing data into CiviCase
March 25, 2014, 01:56:52 pm
I am working with someone who would like to import cases. They need a reasonably complex booking process which involves various stages and actions and CiviCase does this competently but they have a large number of records on old / in progress bookings that they would like to import.

My understanding is that the only way to do this would be through the API but I was wondering whether anyone had any experience of this and could give an indication of complexity. It feels like it could be a massive undertaking, and I can't see any reference to it being done in the forum or in any documentation.

If I've missed something please let me know, or if anyone has input it would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

I think any import project is potentially massive. And resorting to the api happens more often than you might think.
The basic process is to create a clone of your site and take a database dump so you can easily reset it. Then start hacking on your api script. Run it, check the results, tweak, reset the db, and run it again.
There are a lot of people out there with experience doing this kind of thing so if you get hopelessly stuck you might consider hiring help.
