instructions CiviCRM 4.4.4 + Joomla 3.2 + Akeeba Backup 3.1

Hi, I'm running into what I assume are the usual database errors when trying to restore an Akeeba Backup onto a new server. I've found bits and pieces of advice to help on the forum (many several years old) and documentation (as a side note about Joomla installations) , but nothing comprehensive. Can someone point me to a resource that clearly explains the steps necessary to backup a Joomla / CiviCRM site and restore it to a new server? I'd love something that is easy to follow, as I am relatively new to CiviCRM and Joomla.

Thanks!
