What is the best practice for payment instrument on "pay later" contributions?
March 25, 2014, 08:54:59 pm
In version 4.4.x, payment instrument is now a required field for any contribution. What would be considered best practice for a payment instrument for back-office entered "pay later/pending" contributions? Such as for recording an event registration for a paid event, or any other back-office contribution.

I am thinking of setting up a payment instrument called "Non-Monetary" or "Pending" ( linked to a financial account of the same name).  What is recommended? Also, this data will later be exported using the "Accounting Batches" area to a general ledger.

I noticed that "pay later" contributions that come from the public-facing event registration, end up with a payment instrument of "check". I am assuming this happens because "check" is the default payment instrument for my environment.
