Fixed Period Rollover Date Issues
March 26, 2014, 10:30:56 am
My non-profit has monthly dues for members.  Sometimes members fall behind by several months, and will pay on July 20 for April, May, June and July Dues.  Our rollover date is set at the 28th.

Our dues are fixed, so people pay for 1 month, and they get a little sticker for that particular month.  Currently we do all of our memberships and data entry by hand.

We've been using 'member since' to keep track of when a member paid for their dues, and 'start date' to keep track of which month the dues are for, and letting the 'end date' auto-calculate.

I'm facing problem's with the 'rollover' date because our when the 'member since' is between our 'start date' and our 'rollover date' but before our 'end date' it tells us that 'Start date must be the same or later than Member since.'  My answer would be to bump up what the 'rollover date' is, but then it calculates 1 month's dues as 2.

I wish that we could just set it to calculate the 'end date' 1 month from the start date, with no rollover stuff.

Thoughts?

My thoughts are actually about why you are using the dates as you are.

Are you actually recording the payment amount for each month's dues?  If so, why do you need to use the member since date to keep track of when a member paid their dues as the received date associated with the payment does that?

I am actually surprised that your method works as well as you seem to suggest.   It suggests to me that there is a bug to do with creating memberships, which I am now going to look into.
