Prompted by http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,32160 I have been looking in more detail at memberships.

On the demo site I have found that:

I can set a member since date to later than a member start date. See http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/contact/view?reset=1&cid=60 . (I can also do this on my 4.2.15 site)
If I enter a value other than 1 in the Number of Terms field when I create a new membership this is ignored in calculating the member end date.

These are not the results I expected in either situation. Thoughts?

On checking Jira I found http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-13283 > and so investigated a bit more.

It would appear that the number of terms is used to calculate the end date if the period type is rolling , but not if it is fixed

I am going to re-open that issue.
