"Location name" field appears to have gone in 2.0
April 29, 2008, 03:18:35 am
I've done a bit of searching around on this and haven't found anything helpful in Google or on the forums.  The option to give a location a name seems to be missing in my version of 2.0 (upgraded from 1.7).  I can edit the available location types but can't find how to re-enable the location name field.

Was this a deliberate change, or has it been lost in the upgrade?  My users do have useful information in that field for some records so it would be nice to have it back!

actually we changed the data model a bit and the table civicrm_location disappeared (along with location name)

The 2.0 schema was blogged and discussed a fair amount. In general it does help if such issues are raised during the development cycle.

Does it make sense to have a similar field in address? any idea what folks use this field for and how does it differ from location type

thanx

Thanks for the reply - you're right that the location name doesn't provide anything useful so I agree it was right to remove it.  I remember looking at it back at 1.7 and wondering why it was there!  I think this is a case of my users feeling they had to populate a field even if it didn't help them much.
I'll add a bunch of custom location types instead.
