CiviMail appending domain to addresses
April 29, 2008, 07:22:14 am
Apologies if this is a stupid question.  When I send out a civimail mailing, to a group that contains a contact: fred@claus.com, the system is appending @pwsaco.org (our domain) to the end of that.  Obviously causing an error.  What config item am I missing?

Thanks

Jeff

if i had to guess your mail server is appending the domain name if the email address does not match certain expressions. I dont think we touch the email addresses we send to in the code

Looks like its only doing it for addresses that have a local domain (e.g. email's domain is in postfix's virtual alias domains table).

So if the user is jeff.porter@pwsaco.org, then it tries to send it to jeff.porter@pwsaco.org@pwsaco.com ?

Figured out the issue.  receive_override_options = no_address_mappings in the postfix main.cf was causing Postfix to ignore the virtual alias tables.  Removing that option made it work. This option was set in the CiviMail documentation, so not sure if it is needed - as things appear to work with it turned off?

Hm, interesting – it’s working properly with the setting on all our installs. Are you sure it’s not an effect of a mix with some other configuration setting?

I don't know. All I know is that CiviMail works fine without that setting - but when we turn it on, local addresses are ignored (since postfix ignores the virtual_maps tables)
