Odd behaviour of message templates
April 01, 2014, 06:25:59 am
Just running a membership renewal for a client organisation using CiviCRM 4.4.4.

The member can pay online (via Paypal) in which case they get emailed a receipt, opt to pay offline, in which case they get some very similar which is called an invoice (but isn't really an invoice), and they can opt for a recurring payment, in which case they also get something called a Recurring Contribution Notification.

I've been looking at these, and have spotted a couple of issues. They are fairly minor, but nonetheless annoying, and I'd love to fix them, but not sure where to start.

When the member signs up or renews their membership, they are also asked to review/amend a profile of contact information fields, so we can keep their contact data up to date. These fields include Primary Phone number and Primary Mobile number. The message that gets sent to them via email, presumably using the "Memberships - Receipt (on-line)" template, includes the data in this same profile.

However, it always appears to show the same value in both the Primary Phone and Primary Mobile number fields. So some receipts show the primary phone number twice, some show the primary mobile number twice, and some show nothing. I'm assuming this is fixable, and would welcome any pointers as to where I might start that.

The second issue I've noticed is with the Recurring Contribution Notification.
This is curious little email message containing roughly the following by default (my placeholders):

Dear contact_prefix contact_firstname contact_lastname,

Thanks for your auto renew membership sign-up.

This membership will be automatically renewed every 1 year(s).

This membership will be renewed automatically. You can cancel the auto-renewal option by visiting this web page (this is hyperlinked to a page on the site where they can turn off the auto-renew option. I've not tested it yet, but I assume for the moment that it works).
You can update billing details for this automatically renewed membership by visiting this web page (this is hyperlinked, but to nowhere - the link is simply href="").

Is this second 'false' hyperlink an error? The template (Contributions - Recurring Start and End Notification) is helpful, as it appears to use "%1" in both locations as the content of the hyperlink, yet the first is populated and the second is not.

Again, any pointers would be most gratefully received.
