Using Shared Address on Contact - Phone Number not appearing
April 01, 2014, 01:23:10 pm
Hi,

I am using the shared address feature for my contacts.

Example.  I an organization entered with the full address, phone number and fax.  I then have a few individual contacts that use that organization as their address.
When I create a profile to view those contacts information on the frontend, the address shows up correctly, but the phone number is blank.

Help?

Only addresses are shared not phone numbers - I don't think there is any functionality for shared phones

Hi,

Is there any plan to fix/modify this?  It sort of breaks the usability to me of the shared address.  I think you should be able to put in the full address info (including phone) and use it as part of the shared address.  It seems unmanageable without that connection, especially with multiple addresses for a contact.

Phones are not connected to addresses (eg. a mobile or voip) and it isn't either on civi, so when you share an address, you don't share the phones or emails.

it might be better in your case to use relationships as well? Then you can see that John Doe has a relationship "hosted by" to the org and on the relationship tab you see that phone+address

How can I show the relationship on the frontend?

I'm using Civi for two things, event registration and a directory.  I have the directory contacts entered and many are using the shared address feature to make all the multiple organizations (which have frequent changes to suite numbers, etc) easy to manage.  I need the contacts to be searchable on the front and show the contact with the shared organization address and phone number.

I now see I can get that on the backend from the relationship tab, but how on the frontend?

in joomla, i suspect u'll need to write a custom joomla component (or plugin) and use the civi-api to display the relationship on the frontend
