Hi. I'm looking for recommendations on how to best sync CiviMemberships with Joomla ACL groups. Somewhat straight forward process of 1) User subscribes to membership 2) User now has access to private section of the site.

I've tried using these plugins, but running into issues.

https://github.com/lcdservices/CiviCRM-Group-Sync - Successfully syncs non-Smart Groups in CiviCRM with ACL groups. However, our membership groups in Civi are Smart Groups so that new members are added automatically. Is there a way to add new membership users to a non-Smart Group in CiviCRM?

https://github.com/lcdservices/CiviCRM-CiviAuthenticate - This appears to be the most promising but simply does not work as designed. Documentation found here was followed to the T: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Joomla+CiviCRM+Membership+Authentication+and+ACL+Plugin.

Are there any other recommendations for plugins or solutions to enable the scenario described? Thanks.

I use Brian's CiviCRM Authenticate plugin (https://github.com/lcdservices/CiviCRM-CiviAuthenticate) on many many sites and it works just fine.  This is the best option if you are trying to authenticate users based on their membership status.  There have been a number of fixes/changes since the original post in April.
