updating all Geo Codes after upgrade
April 03, 2014, 10:07:58 am
We just finished upgrading from 2.2 to 4.4 (FINALLY!).

Of course, our mapping functionality stopped working a few months ago when the Google API expired for 2.2.

I'm wondering if there's a way for us to update all of the Geo Codes in our database, or at least "refresh" the contacts whose GeoCode fields are blank.

The short answer is "yes".  The longer answer is, "subject to Google's daily API limits".

Head to Administer menu -> System Settings -> Scheduled Jobs.  This is a new (to you!) feature whereby you don't have to set cron for each automated process - you run a single cron job, which checks the various jobs listed on that screen.  You'll almost certainly want to enable others, so check the whole list!

The job you want is called "Geocode and Parse Addresses".  Note that it will NOT work just by enabling it - go in and set the options appropriately for your environment.

HTH,
Jon
