Membership Renewal Emails
April 08, 2014, 07:12:38 am
Hi everyone

We have a website in Drupal with CiviCRM as back-end. We have several types of memberships which also includes memberships that are linked to an organization (people related to a company are member by relationship, etc). However, when we would like to send automatic membership renewal reminders to members as a company we can't seem to insert a token that includes the name of one of the employees of that company. What would be a solution for this, because I guess most people do not want to receive an renewal email starting with just Dear... especially very important members.

Thank you.

Thorough testing is required but I believe that {contact.display_name} would be the token you are looking for that applies to both Organizations and Individuals.

What should happen (last time I checked) is that renewal reminders for memberships belonging to Organizations will be sent to:

1. the organization contact itself (if it has an email such as info@mycompany.com)

2. each individual with a permissioned ("can update info of the other") Employee of relationship

{contact.display_name} may not work in the case of #2, although I understand it is important to you.  That is because the contact owning the membership is the organization.  You may have to do some custom coding with PHP to get the desired token you wish.  If you are not a programmer, hire someone at www.civicrm.org/providers at $80-150/hr.   Or drop the requirement and spend nothing.
