I would like to make a smart group based on a custom field and am having trouble finding the field in advanced search. I created that field as a Used For: Participants and added it to a profile. I checked off all the search and view buttons except for create drupal user.

Can you make a smart group based on a used for of participants, or do you need to make it a Used For type: contacts?

I used participants, because these people are volunteering for an event that they will participate in. I have them selecting the committee they want to volunteer for and I want to throw them into a smart group of that committee.

Did I need to make the Used For type Contacts in order to smart group it? If so, is there a way to switch the Used For easily, or do I need to recreate it from scratch?

in the field, near the bottom, is an option to 'is this field searchable'

have you checked that?

you will see on the demo that the Participant Custom Fields show under EVENTS (not under Custom Fields) in Adv Search
