Price Sets - Other amount

under the contributions page, there's an option to have an "other amount" availiable, is there away to have this option availiable under the price sets, or under event fees.

Yea, I needed the 'other amount' for events as we wanted to offer people the option of making a donation to help low-income members afford to attend. Couldn't see a way to do it so just had to add another price set. Would be a good feature to have.

price sets are not scheduled for an upgrade / overhaul till a later 2.x release

if this is important to you, please consider either funding it and/or hiring a developer to work on it. we have a few ideas on how to restructure the code to make things easier and fit more seamlessly with the rest of civicrm / civievent

I've been playing around with price sets and realized that you can get this effect by adding a text box with a unit price of 1

The user can then enter any amount (which makes that the total amount).

Any thoughts on why this will not work? Adding a 'Other amount' field to price sets will mimic the text field pretty closely
