Joomla 3.x ACL/perms documentation
April 21, 2014, 01:10:04 pm
Well, I have already commented about this and apparently no-one at civiCRM cares.

The documentation for Joomla 3.x ACL is missing, completely.
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC44/CMS+Access+Control
has nothing, doesn't even mention joomla.

And don't send me to the joomla 2.5 docs.

Like I tell everyone, civiCRM "almost" works with joomla.

it's been a month or so since my original post on this topic, and I will repeat what I said there,
when it comes to civiCRM working with Joomla, your mileage may vary.

The wiki is community editable, so would really help other joomla folks if you could help update the documentation and help fill in the missing pieces

repeating things is great but does not update the docs automatically :(

thanx

right.

If I had lots of extra time I would do just that, but, really just a few lines for each ACL descriptor seems like a reasonable expectation.

this seems to me like core, important functionality. I guess it's just assumed that I will change the vals, test, rinse-repeat.
Some of the more glaring examples are:

Access Component - what does that mean? front-end as in /component/xxxx links? or does it mean the back-end?  it obviously isn't about admin functions as there is a separate descriptor for that
Access CiviCRM - again wtf does it mean?
Access all custom data - same thing.

In all fairness, some of the ACLs are obvious, like administer civiCRM, Register for events, and edit own contact, but the three and four words labels are not enough.
