Managing fields in "Include Profiles (Membership Sign-up and Renewal"

Hi,

Our website allows for online membership sign-up, and when I try to require both organization name AND first and last name (so that I know what organization the person is paying for), I get an error message that says, "Cannot add or update profile field type Organization with combination of Household or Individual or Activity".  Even when I disable the fields for first and last name, I still get this error message.  Any ideas?  Sorry I don't have more information, I'm new at this.

I think you will have to delete the "organization name" field in the profile. Can you try that

Hi again,

There is currently no "organization name" field in the profile.  That is what I am trying to add, but it won't let me and gives me the error message I described above.  Currently the fields are first name (individual); Last Name (individual); address, city, postal code, state, country (all with "(contact)" after the field name).

If it is the organisation that becomes the member then perhaps you should be ticking Allow individuals to contribute and / or signup for membership on behalf of an organization? when you set up the contribution page.

Otherwise, if you select individual as the field type then perhaps  Current Employer will serve your purpose,

I think both those options will result in a record for both the person and their organisation.

If you only want a record for the person, then may be you can use Address Name to collect the company name.

If none of those suit you may need to create a custom field.
