Not able to open contact sections like "address"
April 23, 2014, 09:27:29 am
Hello community,

I did a fresh Install of CiviCRM 4.4.5 with Drupal 7.26, went through installation and konfiguration as described with no problems. But there is a problem using the CRM functionality: I cannot open or close any of these bars for entering new contacts. When I try to add one the first section, the contacts details like name, e-mail, etc. ist open from the beginning but I am unable to close it. And for the others at the bottom: the same. I can click on these ("Constituent Information", "Address", "Notes", "Communication Preferences", etc.) but none of them will open. This also happens to some "Advanced Settings"- bar somewhere else on the site.
It is also not possible to configure the start screen dashboard with dragging the available items to "left" or "right". I can drag them but it' s not possible to put them in place - no reaction.
I can' t find anybody experiencing this behaviour so I think it' s just a problem with my configuration (Mac OS 10.6, current Firefox release or the 10.6 Safari). Anybody with a hint what I could try to do?

Thank you very much

I've seen this problem when your directories and resource URLs aren't correctly set.  Most commonly for Drupal folks, it's because they installed to $Drupal/sites/all/modules/civicrm, then decided to move things to $Drupal/sites/all/modules/contrib/civicrm :)

Check Administer menu -> System Settings, and these three submenus in the following order: Directories, Resource URLs, and Cleanup Caches and Update Paths - and press the "Cleanup Caches" button on that last page.  Hopefully that will fix you!

Finally, if this doesn't work, check the Network tab on your Firefox developer tools and see what URLs aren't successfully loading, if any - this will often give you a clue as to the problem.

No, all this doesn' t help, all paths are OK. Maybe this is because I didn' t install manually. I used installing from URL, which was recommended in the read me files. All was installed fine. With Developer I am only able to find the error "ReferenceError: CKEDITOR is not defined" and another one that tells me not to use "getPreventDefault()" any more. Unfortunateley I am not a developer. I installed the "JQuery-Update" module for Drupal to try other versions of Jquery but it does not change anything. I have to find a Windows-machine to check if it' s the mac.

Thank you for your help

Oh, oh, this doesn' t work with my Android Phone either. This must be server related. Or might this be an issue with 4.4.5? OK, I don' t see anybody reporting this, but what can I do now? This functionality is just blocked. Not being able to edit the contacts data is an issue I will have to sort out, of course. These buttons are just images without any function. How can I track with Firebug/ Web Developer what doesn' t work here?

Thank you for any help

Hi Belmondo,

You don't need Firebug if it's not already installed - the Firefox developer tools will serve just as well.

There's a "Network" tab ("Net" on Firebug), which shows all the various HTTP requests that are made.  My guess is that some of your Javascript isn't loading.  So try loading the page, and look for any 404 errors on individual files, particularly Javascript files.  It also may not be a 404 error - look for anything that has an HTTP status code that starts with a 4 or 5.  If the answer isn't obvious from there, report back what's not loading, pasting in the full error message.

Got it! Oh, I am happy, happy, happy. Like I mentioned in the second post and once again I could track some CKEditor-Failures in the developer tools and tried to check this. Under "admin/setting/preferences/display" I set the "WYSIWYG Editor" to "Textfeld"/"Textfield" and now all the fields are usable. What happened after this is that all the items in the configuration-checklist turned back from green to red again. I hope this doesn' t matter. The other issue is still remaining: not able to drag dashlets to "left" or "right" column in the "overview" page. There are:
GET openflashchart.packed.js
GET swfobjects.js
GET dashboard.css?r=GknDb
GET arrow.png
failures.
All this seem to be things from "/packages/OpenFlashChart/js" and "/packages/jquery". I think this is what you say about JavaScript. It says here "URL could not be loaded". The only thing that I can see on the server ist that all files are owned by user and group "www-data" and have 755 or 644 set. Seems good to me.

I see on the "CiviCRM 4.5 Sandbox (with Drupal)" site that the "dashboard" and the "Configure Your Dashboard" screens look completely different, much better than mine :-) At last now I know for sure that mine is broken. I don't see any "Left Column" and "Right Column" filled with content. I just see two small "Left Column" and "Right Column" links without any CSS loaded as I would tell.
Should I try to find other useful information? Which?

Thank you very much
