Unable to install

I am unable to install CiviCRM 4.1 or 4.4.5 in Joomla 3.2.3
(on MySQL 5.1.66-0+squeeze1, PHP 5.3.3-7+squeeze18, Apache).
No error message is displayed, but CiviCRM is not installed.

Are any errors logged in the logs?

At last I have been able to install rel. 4.4.4 from URL.
On the contrary, I have not been to install the downloaded package.
Is this correct?

Are you using regular package Joomla or the ALT one? Try the ALT one, as it doesn't need some PHP extensions and so is a little easier to install, my experience.
