Looking at using CiviCRM + Drupal for a high school PTA/PTSA
April 24, 2014, 06:48:02 am
Anyone currently using CiviCRM + Drupal to support a high school PTA/PTSA website? If so, I have the following questions:
  • How hard is it to import user/account profile information into CiviCRM/Drupal?
  • Are there free/inexpensive themes that work with CiviCRM/Drupal?
  • What obstacles/roadblocks did you run into?
  • What other alternatives did you consider before deciding on CiviCRM/Drupal?
Thanks!
James

I am not aware of any, but perhaps someone will post here.

Yes, almost all Drupal themes on drupal.org: https://drupal.org/project/project_theme work with CiviCRM.

Hi James - i think it could help us to comment if you can spell out what functions you are anticipating needing. A PTA site could be just a single static page with a CRM behind it - or it could allow parents to update children's contact details, see school reports on their kids and way much more

Pete -

Thanks for your reply. In addition to hosting static web content, we're looking for basic CRM functionality to support things like:
  • Online directory (and the ability to extract data for printed versions)
  • Private (non-public) web content
  • Family accounts (with one or more students attached)
  • Calendar
  • Pages for different committees
  • Library of downloadable forms
  • Ability to fill out forms and surveys online
  • Accept donations.

All of your requirements can be met with CiviCRM and Drupal.

agree with hershel

- Online directory (and the ability to extract data for printed versions)
various options - profile listings, drupal views, drupal views with PDF or CSV etc
- Private (non-public) web content
Most likely Drupal acl via roles which you can sync eg with Civi Groups
- Family accounts (with one or more students attached)
Webform-civicrm gives a good solution for letting parents manage information for multiple offspring
- Calendar
of what? but generally Drupal Views
- Pages for different committees
some form of ACL via drupal eg Organic Groups or just via Roles
- Library of downloadable forms
not sure if this will be better on civi side or not - i would tend to work this on Drupal side
- Ability to fill out forms and surveys online
standard civi profiles - or webform-civicrm
- Accept donations.
standard civi contribution page

good luck - let us know how you get on
