CIVICRM WORDPRESS - How to setup members only content?
April 25, 2014, 03:55:15 am
Hi, I just completed installation of CIVICRM on WordPress. And I have questions on how to setup various functions:

How do I allow members to see member specific content/events on WordPress?
Where would these members login to see the content?

The situation: I need to setup an area where only members can access. Like specific posts/pages. How do I sync civicrm users with wordpress? And how do I set these users with usernames/passwords to access these pages?

Thanks!

Your going to need a WordPress plugin to restrict access to pages. The 'members' plugin does this well. You can setup roles beyond the standard WordPress roles and then restrict access by roles to specific pages & posts. You will also want to download the WordPress Member Role Sync extension from the CiviCRM site. This will keep member roles accurate as they change. Each Member needs a WordPress Login. You can require them to create one when they sign up. It is an option in the Advanced Settings when you setup a profile.

Hope this helps.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I've got the plugins you mentioned. So existing CIVICRM members would need to create a WordPress account first? So it would be in vice-versa, right? Where a member signs up using wordpress and then it would automatically sync with CIVICRM using the role sync plugin? or am I missing something?

Thanks!

Hi kakenx, I'm trying to do something similar. Did you figure it out?

I tried both of the last two options below on the Advanced Settings for the Name and Address profile:

WordPress user account registration option?
  • No account create option
  • Give option, but not required
  • Account creation required
But I never see the option on the form (as part of Membership Signup). No password field, etc.

Any help would be appreciated (by anyone)!

You will not see the create account option if you are logged in when viewing the form. The system sees you as a logged in user so it removes that option. I usually open up the form in another browser so I can view the form as an anonymous user and still easily get to CiviCRM to make changes.

Thanks KilakwaBT, but that's not it. I always either log out or test in a different browser.
