Need ability to log into standalone without using an openid
May 02, 2008, 07:24:28 pm
I installed as a standalone on my notebook. I am not always on the internet so the requirement for an openid is a bit of overkill because I want to truly use it standalone.

Sorry about the cross-post. I had this under installation but no reply. Isn't this feasible?

hey dennis:

agreed, this is a valid use case. we'll be working a bit more on standalone for the 2.1 series and we'll make sure that you can bypass authentication / openID if not connected in the 2.1 version

i'm not sure an easy workaround exists for 2.0 without touching the code base

This could be done by making CiviCRM an OpenID provider as well as a consumer. In other words, Civi could let you assign "local" OpenIDs to contacts that it would handle the authentication of itself. Then it would just be a matter of making this the default for the first admin user created during the standalone installation.

Then we wouldn't need multiple auth systems. The default auth system could be very simple and straightforward (it could be coded so it hides the loopback OpenID transaction from the user and just looks like any other login system), but still allow folks to branch out and use non-local OpenIDs when they want to.
