Is there a strategy for using a smart group for several searches?  So that a search for a criteria will to go an EXISTING smart group?

We are building a way to keep track of volunteers signing up for a festival.  The volunteers work on different committees, or even sub-committees.  Some of the sub-committees are recognized by the users only by the sub committee name, not the parent committee name. 

For example, on the Camping Committee, there is a sub committee called Shuttle.  Some of the folks on the Camping - Shuttle committee only know they were on Shuttle, and are blissfully unaware that Shuttle is part of Camping.

I am using a custom field for them to select when they sign up that indicates what committee they worked on last year.  These folks will be looking for Shuttle and not Camping.  So I can't even ask them to select Camping, and then ask a secondary question about which sub-group.

But I would like to put them into the Camping Smart Group.

Is there a way to do this?
