How do I record backend membership renewal and contribution price set elements?
April 28, 2014, 06:42:11 am
When a new member of our organizations mails us a membership form and dues, we data enter this using "New Membership". On the membership form, we also invite them to make additional contributions. On the New Membership form, we use a Price Set to record the membership fee, and the other contribution options (like a donation, or in memoriam contribution)

When existing members are invited to renew, and opt to mail us a renewal payment, they are also solicited for several donation options (represented by the aforementioned price set in civiCRM). They will send one cheque for the membership and other contribution amounts.

When we receive these offline payments, we want to record the renewal payment, but at the same time, we want to select items from the price set associated with membership.

However, when we (for example), use Find Membership and filter by Expired members (or look up an expired member), and then select the option More...>Renew, nowhere on the form do we see a way to enter both the payment received for the renewed membership, and the price set options associated with that membership renewal.

For renewals, is there a way to, at the same time, record both the membership renewal, and the contribution(s) made (like with New Memberships)?

For offline membership renewals with donations you need to record two separate transactions, one for the renewal and one for the donation(s).

We have a price set called Renewal add-ons that contains all options apart from the membership.  We add 'M' (membership), 'D' (donation) or 'B' (booklet) to the transaction id as each transaction id need to be unique.

Could a customization (hook) provide a mechanism to allow the contributions to be entered at the same time as the membership renewal (ie: on the same form)?
