Updating from 4.4.4 to 4.4.5
April 28, 2014, 06:57:35 am
I'm wondering if there is any way to update CiviCRM without entirely uninstalling & reinstalling. This should be possible, right? I mean, I can uninstall and reinstall, but it seems like not really the right thing to do...I just updated to Drupal 7.27 and that just involved overwriting some files. Help me out here, I"m new to all this.

(In other funny news, my first instinct was to make the words "Sofa Wars" by filling in the blanks for the captcha  below. It sounded like a fun game.)

Yes, you can easily upgrade.  The documentation is here https://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Upgrade+Drupal+Sites+to+4.4+-+Drupal+7
But here's how I do it - takes 5 minutes maybe.  This is the barebones version, not failed for me yet.  I assume you are using cPanel.

1. Backup your database (I use phpmyadmin)
2. Logon as administrator to your CiviCRM installation
3. Upload the 2 x new release tar files to <your site>/sites/all/modules
4. Delete the civicrm folder in that location (the tension rises at this point!)
5. Expand the 2 files, which will recreate the above civicrm folder
6. Switch over to your CiviCRM installation, and run the upgrade script (which is <your site>/civicrm/upgrade?reset=1)

That's it.

It worked!!! Thank you!

Just in case future people are confused, I did not find 2 files, only the one tar file. But other than that discrepancy (which may have been my misreading to expect in the first place) these instructions were spot on.

Great!  The other tar file is likely to be this one http://sourceforge.net/projects/civicrm/files/civicrm-stable/4.4.5/civicrm-4.4.5-l10n.tar.gz/download which you need for internationalisation.  I guess you should also upload and expand this one also.
