Physical Items to be brought by Volunteers
April 29, 2014, 06:57:36 am
THANKS for the CiviVolunteer Extention!  We are using it!

A question/suggestion:  We want to have a way to list physical items that need to be provided(Volunteer to bring) for an Event.  We thought of creating a role in the CiviVolunteer module but realized we would have to create way to many roles and would not make sense.    We thought maybe if we could create a role called "Items to bring" and then have a sub category pop up to list the items to bring.  I hope this makes sense.
OR is there another way to manage "Items" to be brought to an Event?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or suggestions.

If your org is using and loving CiviVolunteer, please do consider making a financial contribution to improve it and add new features

Quite a few folks have spent a fair amount of their time on it, with very little funding

thanx

Thanks, Lobo, for reminding folks that open source software doesn't just "happen." Funding projects is important; everyone has to eat.  :)

GZimmerman, I'm glad CiviVolunteer is helping your organization. It's exciting each time we learn about an organization that is using the extension, especially when we don't already have some kind of a relationship with them.

I'm not sure what your workflow is like, but you might take a look at the profile CiviVolunteer uses for the public sign-up form. You can access it by navigating to Administer > Customize Data and Screens > Profiles and clicking "Reserved Profiles." You can edit the "Volunteer Sign Up" profile to add the fields of your choosing (e.g., a custom field containing your common volunteering supplies). This approach probably won't get you all the way to the finish line, as reporting on the Volunteer Items may be a little clunky, but it's a start.

Please get in touch if you need to alter the extension to better suit your needs, as I'd be happy to help you with that.

I WILL ask "the powers to be" to consider making a donation to the CiviVolunteer module.

AND THANK YOU for the suggestion of looking at the CiviVolunteer Profile.  As you stated that might be a start...

You are greatly appreciated.

It's not donations that we're after so much as an engaged and invested community. If CiviVolunteer (or CiviCRM, for that matter) doesn't do something you need it to, we ask that you help us improve the software, either by developing the enhancement yourself and contributing it back to the project, or by hiring a developer to do the same.

Thanks!
