Family membership self-service
April 29, 2014, 10:56:19 am
I'm attempting to create a situation where a parent could enter a spouse & children into the organization's database themselves and have the parent-child &  spouse relationships recorded. It looks like I may be able to do it via events and the Youth Registration extension(https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CCkQFjAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fcivicrm.org%2Fextensions%2Fyouth-registration&ei=AedfU-KiOI_gsASe74CQAw&usg=AFQjCNG2NM9fRNOWgtld8ftIedo5FHWxnw&sig2=8KAgAbgun8eMoSFiS53bNA&bvm=bv.65397613,d.cWc), but it occurred to me that this might work better if it were done as a membership type.

I've searched around and found people talking about gaining this capability back in 2011 (https://civicrm.org/blogs/sarahgladstone/lets-put-r-back-crm), but I'm unclear on whether what they were talking about was later created or not. If so, where should I go to find it? If not, would you mind sharing the workarounds you use?

It's a variation on the same theme. In fact, I think webform may have solved both issues! Which is both exciting and shows me that I have a lot left to learn.

Hm...I may have spoken too soon.It almost solved both issues...but webform doesn't integrate a payment processor so I haven't yet figured out how to collect a membership fee. Do you have any suggestions?

webform-civi does work if you have an inline processor - if you don't have that type then not sure what to suggest - back to looking at pogstone's approach?

I don't see it...Wait, am I not using the most up-to-date version of webform-civi? I just went to check and I'm not! Ok, I feel fairly silly, given that the latest update came out months before I installed the old version. Going to update that now. All these modules are so useful and yet so tricky to juggle. Sigh.

Thanks for all your help!
