Announcement: ".mo" files have been moved to download.civicrm.org
April 29, 2014, 05:53:26 pm
Previously, translators who wanted to update their translation files (l10n/xx/civicrm.mo) could wait until Wednesday, and get an updated civicrm.mo for their language form the github.com/civicrm/l10n repository.

This was not a good practice, since the .mo files are binary, and such flies should not be kept in git. It was also a bit annoying to have to wait a few days before being able to test the updated translation.

The files are now available on a daily basis (at 9h45 PST) from the following URL of the following form:
https://download.civicrm.org/civicrm-l10n-core/mo/XX/civicrm.mo

.. where XX is the language code, such as "es", "fr", or "fr_CA" for regional translations/variants.

PS: for now, the files are still committed to the l10n SVN repository, and this does not change anything to the civicrm-l10n.tar.gz file. This mostly concerns translators who needed an easy way to update their translation.

For those who need a complete archive of the translations updated daily:
https://download.civicrm.org/civicrm-l10n-core/archive/civicrm-l10n-daily.tar.gz

I should also mention that I have renamed in the hierarchy all files to be using the ISO 3166-1 code (xx_XX), so "fr" is always "fr_FR", "es" is "es_ES", etc. and of course, this does not impact regional translations such as pt_BR, fr_CA, es_MX, etc.

However.. some of the un-official translations (under 20% completion) might still be in the "short" ISO-639 code.

Another missing item, would be a comprehensive page that lists all the translations, with the full translation name (not just xx_XX), the link to the transifex project page, and a link to either this forum section, or the language-specific forum section if one exists. Currently, the download page of CiviCRM (civicrm.org/download) is rather internationalisation-unfriendly, since it redirects to Source Forge. Any thoughts?

Nice Mathieu.

I think that a quick solution for the download page, even not the best one, would be the inclusion of a link (with some highlight, maybe a banner, don't know) to a page in the wiki where we could bring the internationalization procedures in different languages (translations of http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/i18n+Administrator%27s+Guide), with the links to Transifex and package download. I'm available to give a hand in such thing.
