I've manually cleaned up CiviCRM duplicates in the past. To my dismay, I now have 1200 Duplicates. I really don't want to spend an entire day resolving duplicates.
We have 6700 contacts. Should we upgrade to 2.0.3 and make use of improved duplicate detection capabilities, or should I resolve the duplicates before upgrading.

hey kieran:

i dont think 2.0.3 has much better dedupe than 1.8 (however it will be significantly improved in 2.1). so not sure if upgrading will get you a whole lot.

if you can share the db, we'd be happy to look at the db and figure out the best way to do an automated merge in 2.0, and if needed write some custom merge functionality for this. We'll keep it confidential / delete it when done etc.

any idea why/how these dupes are being created? can we prevent that from happening to avoid the dedupe cycle
