Missing option to use profile for user registration
May 07, 2014, 06:37:53 am
I'm using CiviCRM on Joomla! 2.5, and I'm new to it and slightly confused so I've probably missed something obvious , however: when I create a new profile, it isn't available for use in a contribution form as the documentation suggests it should be.

Or perhaps I'm going about this the wrong way. I'm trying to create a self-registration and renewal form for new members that collects all of their data, including custom fields, and their membership fees. Is there some way to do this that doesn't involve using profiles? I have read the documentation, but I don't find it very easy to follow on this issue. If someone could point me in the right direction, I'd be  most grateful  :-[

Hi Sarah - can you be specific about what fields you have included in the Profile - if you use a mix of fields used for different things, eg Memberships, Events, Contributions, Participants, Contacts then the profiles mostly won't work

This might be one thing to consider: I found out recently (from joanne) to make sure you give your anonymous user the permission CiviCRM: access all custom data.

Thank you both for your replies. I'm sorry not to have responded sooner - I didn't get any notifications, so I thought that nobody had answered.

petednz: I've tried so many different things (including uninstalling and re-installing CiviCRM twice) that I'm really not sure now what I have and haven't done. I've just reinstalled it and I'm starting again from scratch. What I want to do is this:

We have three different kinds of paid membership: family, supporter and organisation. Really they all behave like individual memberships (in that family members don't need separate records for any reason that I can think of - it's the family that's the member), but I need to collect different data from each kind of member when they take out a membership via the website. For instance, for family members I need to know the first name, DOB and place of education of each child; for organisation members I need to know the company name, etc. I obviously need to set up custom fields for these, and at some point I managed to do that OK - at least so that these items appeared under tabs in the admin 'add new contact' form. However, though I have managed to create various profiles without any apparent errors, those profiles have never been available to add to contribution pages. I realise that I must be missing something very obvious, perhaps because I'm not familiar with the terminology and don't really understand what I'm trying to do - I just can't work out what it is. Can you tell me what kind of field I should be using for this? My plan is to have a separate sign-up page for each kind of member, so that they are asked to enter only the data that I need for their specific membership type (so using that specific profile) - but maybe that's not the best way of doing it  :-\

jcrothers_ubc: thank you for the permissions inf . I'll make sure that I've done that.
